Duty title and unit: Receiving and Releasing Supervisor, Naval Consolidated Brig Miramar Detachment Pearl Harbor, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii (Air Force Security Forces Center, Det 2) Primary duty responsibilities: Managing the safety and security of all staff and inmates within the facility. When new inmates arrive, my job is to ensure they are properly received into the facility – such as making sure they meet minimum hygiene and clothing requirements – and all their paperwork is legal and justified for confinement. I also facilitate their movement throughout the facility so they are not presented with any avenues of escape. What’s the best part of your job? This is a challenging question because of the nature of the job itself: we are taking care of (inmates). I guess my saving grace, and what I tell myself every day, is it’s my job to ensure no one in the public has to deal with them thanks to the job we are doing. What’s a recent project that gave you a great sense of accomplishment? From a military standpoint, I have hit the ground running. My most recent accomplishments have definitely been receiving three critical certifications: Dorm Supervisor, Master Control Supervisor, and Receiving and Releasing Supervisor. According to my Navy counterparts, they haven’t seen anyone achieve these certifications as fast as I have. I am currently working on Brig Duty Officer and hope to achieve this cert by the end of May. Anything else you’d like to add? I wouldn’t be in the position I’m in if it wasn’t for my lovely son and wife. So I always remind myself of one thing: “Mission first, Family ALWAYS.”
