HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Military working dogs and their handlers from 75th Security Forces Squadron participated in a joint training event held here Nov. 17-18 with local, state and federal law enforcement dog teams. The training was led by a collaboration between 75th SFS and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
The purpose of the training was to foster joint partner relations and enhance capabilities in explosive detection. The teams trained on odor imprinting, which is exposing a K-9 to an unfamiliar odor and training the dog to alert to the odor using rewards. The second day consisted of the dogs taking part in several detection scenarios at various locations around the base.
The agencies participating included the Salt Lake City Police Department, Transportation Security Administration, Utah Transit Authority, Unified Fire Authority, and the Federal Protective Service among others.
