#IAMIMSC: Staff Sgt. Erick Perry, Air Force Security Forces Center Detachment 2
Duty title and unit: Special quarters chief and American Corrections Association monitor for operations, Naval Consolidated Brig, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California.
Primary duty responsibilities: I ensure the dorm population for special management housing, or special quarters for all new confinees and prisoners segregated for disciplinary action, is updated daily to account for any changes in custody classification and status. I then provide that information to the prisoner management department so they can determine if prisoners should remain in special quarters. I also maintain an ACA tracker for operations and collect information that proves the brig is meeting standards.
What’s the best part of your job?
There is no such thing as a slow day for me; there’s always more to do.
Why are you and your job important to the Air Force and AFMC?
This is an absolute no-fail mission. If I didn’t do my job, the brig would fall behind on requirements for certification which it is audited every three years.
What’s a recent project that gave you a great sense of accomplishment?
Every day is a project for me. I get a great sense of accomplishment whenever I get the job done. My most recent accomplishment occurred during the 2019 – 2021 ACA inspection. The work I do, impacting more than 500 federal requirements, helped earn a 100% audit score.
Which AFIMSC priority do you most identify with – or see yourself and your job fitting into – and why?
My work supports LOE 2: Strengthen Airmen and Families. I’m extremely fortunate to be stationed at the Naval Consolidated Brig Miramar. There is an overwhelming level of support in this command and I believe it’s because people here do their best to get the mission done.

I just want to thank my leadership for challenging me. I needed it.
