FORT BLISS, Texas – The Air Force Security Force Center’s Logistics Detail continues to enhance lethality and readiness for Defenders by rapidly delivering the equipment they need to protect people and resources around the world.

Established in October 2017 at AFSFC’s Det. 3, Fort Bliss, Texas, the logistics detail, or LOGDET, functions as the Department of the Air Force’s equipment centralization system for security forces across the Total Force. By using unit type codes, the LOGDET team can deliver in days the operational, state-of-the-art equipment Defenders need for enhanced force protection.

“LOGDET provides lifecycle management and maintenance of 705 UTCs valued at over $262 million, ensuring the equipment is ready for deployment at a moment’s notice in support of combatant commands worldwide,” said Senior Master Sgt. Brian Lunger, Center Mobility Operations chief at Det. 3’s Desert Defender Ground Combat Readiness Training Center.

This centralized logistics hub sustains, maintains and deploys capability-based equipment for all security forces unique UTCs. These UTCs support a full range of expeditionary operations, including base defense operations centers, sentry towers, mobile armories, entry control points, off-road utility vehicles and small unmanned aerial system packages.

Before LOGDET’s inception in 2017, security forces equipment was scattered at installations across the Air Force. Each security forces inventoried and shipped equipment to a central location for consolidation before it was sent downrange to where security forces personnel needed it.

“To date, LOGDET has deployed 242 UTCs in an effort to give our Defenders a technological advantage over our adversaries,” said AFSFC Det. 3 Commander Lt. Col. Christopher Thompson. “This has served as a catalyst for achieving superior agility and lethality in a battlefield environment.”

In addition to supporting Defenders downrange, LOGDET played a key role in Operation Allies Welcome, the evacuation and resettlement of thousands of Afghans and other civilians from Afghanistan. The AFSFC, a primary subordinate unit of the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center, stepped in to provide security infrastructure and logistical support.

“The Security Forces Logistics Detail team postured more than $11 million in installation base defense capability sets and coordinated a convoy with three other agencies to transport the equipment at a moment’s notice,” said Thompson.

The LOGDET team accomplishes its mission with a Total Force construct of nine military members and 22 contractors. These members are subject matter experts from the various Air Force security forces disciplines and related functions ranging from individual personnel requirements to deployable equipment, weapons management and ground munitions.

“These active-duty Airmen, Reservists, Texas and Utah National Guard, contractors and employed retirees all work together to deliver the communications, weapons and related force protection equipment Air Force Defenders need,” said Tech. Sgt. Angel Figueroa, materiel management NCO in charge for LOGDET. “We have evolved our processes, from palletizing and cargo prep to having all the equipment prebuilt in containers. We can get them to our security forces quickly so they can execute the mission.”
